Violence against women won’t be tolerated: PWPA

LAHORE: Punjab Women Protection Authority (PWPA) Chairperson Hina Pervez Butt said that violence, harassment, injustice and mistreatment of women would not be tolerated.

Hina Pervez said under direction of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the Punjab government is committed to the protection and rehabilitation of women. She said the Women Protection Authority would take strict action against harassment and violence suffered by women.

She expressed these views at a press conference held on Wednesday at the office of the DG Social Welfare, where DG Social Welfare Amina Munir was also present.

Hina Pervez further mentioned that during her visits to various cities, numerous issues related to cybercrime emerged. They plan to revamp all virtual police stations and district offices and to provide modern training to the Authority’s staff. She urged all women to report cyber issues to the Women Protection Authority without hesitation. Strict action would be taken against cyber-related issues, as well as against any form of abuse, violence, and other problems faced by women.

After the press conference, Hina Pervez Butt also met with representatives from various international NGOs. On this occasion, she said that while the Punjab Women Protection Act was passed by Shehbaz Sharif’s previous government, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government had failed to formulate the rules for this Act over four years.
