Suspect held for attacking estranged wife with acid

SUKKUR: A man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly attacking his wife after beating her up at his in-laws’ home in Muslim Colony, near Naka-4, in Daharki town of Ghotki district, police said on Friday.

The victim, Natasha Anum, is currently under treatment at Daharki’s government hospital.

Her mother, Kausar Bibi, had approached the Daharki police and then Ghotki SSP Dr Sumair Noor Channa to lodge her complaint that Natasha’s husband, Mohammad Nawaz Dahar, along with his father, Siraj Dahar, and brothers, Zafar and Nadir, visited her home when she [the mother] was not present there. She alleged that they kept beating up Natasha and finally Nawaz threw acid on her before they all fled the area.

Kausar Bibi also shared details of the incident with local reporters. She said Nawaz and Natasha had estranged relationship for long over domestic matters which forced her to move to their [her parents’] home. She said Nawaz had been manhandling Natasha on and off. “She had already been under treatment at our home for the injuries inflicted on her by Nawaz. Natasa was pregnant but her husband and other in-laws did not care about it while subjecting her to beating and attacking her with acid,” moaned Kausar Bibi.

On her complaint, SSP Channa directed Daharki SHO Ghulam Akbar Mirani to hunt down the suspects. Accordingly, raids were conducted on different homes and other places in Daharki and Nawaz was arrested on late Thursday evening, the SHO said.

He said further action would be taken against the suspects after receipt of results of Natasha’s medical tests.
