Seminar on women’s role in media

KARACHI – The Media Women Publishers’ and Journalists’ Organisation (MWPJO) is organising an interactive seminar on “Women and media – the South Asian experience in Karachi” here on November 30. The seminar would be addressed by prominent media women from Pakistan, India, Nepal Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Advisor to the Prime Minister and incharge, Ministry of Women Development and Social Welfare, government of Pakistan, Nilofar Bakhtiar, will inaugurate the daylong seminar, while Sindh Minister for Women Development and Social Welfare Dr Saeeda Malik, and Minister of Sate for Information Anisa Tahir Kheli would chair the two sessions.

The seminar, first of its kind, would have interactive panel discussions where leading media personalities of South Asia would identify, discuss and suggest solutions to counter socio-economic issues being faced by the women of the region.

The penalists would also elaborate the dynamics of the woman’s role in the development of economies and societies of their respective countries and how media, as a powerful catalyst of change, could responsibly be used to empower women for greater autonomy and influence in the society.

The main objective of this seminar is to explore the opportunities for women, using media as a tool for change and facilitation.
