Police held councilor for selling women

Police have arrested a councillor and her husband for allegedly selling women.

“We have recovered a young girl swindled by a gang from here and sold to a visually impaired person in Chakwal area of the Punjab province,” police investigator Bashir Awan told reporters on Friday.

He said the police arrested village councillor Dilshad Bibi and her husband, Khawaj Mohammad, in Malkana area of Oghi tehsil over the matter and shifted them to the police station for investigation on the complaint of resident Dilbar Shah.

The official said the couple allegedly sold more than 25 women from here in Chakwal.

He said the recovered woman, who was sold for Rs150,000, had accused the couple of trafficking her and threatening to kill her during custody.

The official said the Mansehra police were fulfilling legal formalities to seek the Punjab police’s help for arresting the other members of the gang.
