MQM for data to assess women’s contribution to economy

Karachi: MQM Coordination Committee convenor Dr Farooq Sattar on Monday said his party strongly supported compilation of “sex desegregated employment data” to ascertain women’s contribution to the national economy.

In a meeting with a delegation of women activists, headed by Aurat Foundation’s (AF) Regional Director, Mehnaz Rehman, at the party’s head office, he said his party’s election manifesto, over the years, remained focused on real empowerment of all oppressed people.

“We are for pro-people reforms and the march scheduled for January 14 is also part of our commitment towards the cause of reforms,” said Farooq Sattar.

Accompanied by senior party leaders, Kunwar Khalid Younus and Sardar Ahmed, who are also actively involved in preparation of MQM’s election manifesto – 2013, he said his party is strongly committed to political empowerment of women in the country.

“It is also the basis of our strong support for local bodies as this enables people in general and women in particular to be actively involved in grassroots level decision making process,” he said. Responding to submissions made by AF delegation that also included Malka Khan and Farida Tahir, he said land reforms were among the topmost important agendas of his party.
