Man kills wife over Rs300,000 dispute

KARACHI: A man allegedly stabbed his wife to death after she refused to hand over Rs300,000, which she had saved through an informal savings circle, commonly known as a ballot committee (BC), off the Superhighway on Thursday, police said.

They added that Zahida, 32, was stabbed and killed in Wazir Brohi Goth.

SITE Superhighway Industrial Area police SHO Noor Mohammed Shaikh told Dawn that the victim’s husband, Abdul Ghafoor, and her brother-in-law brutally tortured the woman to death.

Regarding the possible motive, the officer said that the deceased had recently earned Rs300,000 through the BC.

Both her husband and brother-in-law had been demanding the cash. When she refused to give them the money, they attacked her with a knife and a sharp object.

The woman suffered multiple injuries. The suspects fled with the deceased’s three children. The body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital to fulfil medico-legal formalities.
