Justice for Sania Zehra: Pregnant woman brutally murdered by husband in Multan

Another incident of violence against women was reported from Pakistan and it sent shockwaves across the country as Syeda Sania Zehra Bukhari, a 20-year-old woman from Multan, was killed after brutal assault.

The victim was reportedly five months pregnant and fell victim to her husband, Syed Ali Raza Bukhari, who stands accused of her murder. The shocking details of Sania’s death triggered outcry on social media, and it also prompted calls for stricter enforcement of laws to curb domestic violence.

Forensic findings revealed harrowing details of Sania’s ordeal, indicating she was raped and brutally murdered through strangulation. Additional examinations uncovered mutilations including the severing of her tongue, broken teeth, and crushed feet, painting a grim picture of the extent of her suffering.

During initial probe, it was found that Sania’s husband attempted to stage murder as a suicide by hanging Sania’s body after violence.

The motive behind the crime appears to be a property dispute, as per media reports as Sania owned house she lived in and she continues to engage in heated arguments with husband Syed Ali Raza Bukhari.

The deceased family said Ali Raza tricked Sania about his marital status, falsely claiming to be single while already married with children. It also led to legal action from Sania’s family, who took her back after she gave birth to their son. Despite this history, societal pressures and fear of stigma compelled Sania to reconcile, urging her family to drop the case.

After the incident, Ali Raza managed to escape the city and is at large. The tragic death sparked widespread outrage and calls for justice from the community and women’s rights advocates alike.

Sania’s story is latest in series of horror stories that shows surge in violence against women.
