KARACHI: The Karachi Board of Intermediate Education on Thursday announced the results of Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC) Part-II Commerce Group (Regular), Humanities Group (Regular) and Humanities Group (Regular) for Special Candidates Annual Examinations 2013.
A total of 35,393 candidates including 19,992 boys and 15,401 girls appeared in the examinations while 19,984 (11630 boys, 8354 girls) candidates declared passed, showing the pass percentage of 56.46.
Girls once again outshone boys in the results of HSC Humanities Group (Regular) as all top six positions were taken by female candidates, while four positions out of six were also taken by girls in the HSC Commerce Group (Regular). Both the results reveal that private educational institutions have performed better than the public institutions.
BIEK Controller Examination Imran Khan Chishti announced the results in a special ceremony held at BIEK Auditorium in honour of the position holders. Besides the toppers, BIEK Chairman Prof Anwar Ahmed Zai, BIEK Secretary Arshad, heads and teachers of various public and private institutions were also present on the occasion.
In the commerce group, Momina Khalil of Bharia College (Karsaz) bagged first position by getting 933 marks out of total 1,100. Shiekh Mustafa of College of Emerging Technologies stood second with 931 marks while Sehar Aslam of Fatimiyah Colleges Girls Campus secured third position with 928 marks.
In the humanities group, a total of 10,591 candidates, including 1,121 boys and 9,470 girls, appeared in the exams while 4,750 (529 boys, 4,221 girls) candidates declared passed, showing the total pass percentage of 44.85.
Conversely, on account of special candidates, Faraz Shadani of Dewa Higher Secondary School got first position by getting 1,002 marks, Muhammad Abdullah Bin Tariq and Hammad Bin Tariq of the same institution secured second and third positions with 999 and 995marks respectively.
BIEK Chairman Prof Anwar Ahmed Zai, in his speech, said that the intermediate board was going on the way of progress, and trying its best to make the examination system as per the needs of contemporary worlds’ educational standards.
Answering a query, he said that the act of memorizing question answers was also sometime needed for success of a student, while the board was trying to introduce objective papers to stop unfair activities in the examinations.
