Family protests police reluctance to arrest girl’s ‘rapist’

KARACHI: A protest was staged on Hub River Road off Northern Bypass on Saturday against
the alleged reluctance of police to arrest the rapist of a young girl in Moach Goth, disrupting
traffic and causing huge gridlocks.
According to Shahid Khan, SHO Mochko police station, a woman, Naziran Bibi, registered a
case against the headmaster of a school named Hanif on June 27, accusing him of raping her
daughter. In her FIR, she stated that her 11-year-old daughter attends tuition with Hanif.
“On June 21, Hanif called me and asked to send all three daughters for Eid gifts,” the
complainant said, adding that initially she refused but relented in the end. “Upon returning home
at 1pm, one of my daughters Tayyaba told me that Hanif had separated her younger sisters and
sexually assaulted her in a separate room, threatening her against disclosing the incident,” the
complainant further stated.
A case was registered against Hanif under Section 367 of Pakistan Penal Code. Hanif secured
a pre-arrest bail the following day, while police have since conducted a medical examination of
the victim, the SHO said, adding that they are awaiting the examination report for further clarity.
Meanwhile, an audio clip has gone viral on social media purportedly featuring Hanif apologising
to the victim’s mother. Moreover, Naziran has submitted an application to Wing Commander 31

Wing Sachal Rangers, alleging that Hanif visited her home to apologise but she did not open the
gate, and since then he has continuously been calling and messaging her. She added that she
has a digital record of all calls and messages.
