Actress Nargis’s husband gets interim bail in domestic violence case

Pakistani actress Nargis’s husband, Maajid Bashir, who is also a Punjab police official, has secured interim bail until November 18 to avoid arrest following allegations of domestic violence against him.

Bashir has been named in a case registered by Nargis, in which he has accused him of assaulted her.

In a statement, Inspector Maajid Bashir defended himself, stating, “My wife is a respectable woman, and arguments occur in every household. Some people are maligning my character, and I will take legal action against them.”

He added that Nargis is still his wife, asserting that their situation is a personal matter, as “disputes happen in every home.”

Bashir indicated that he would also pursue legal measures against those attempting to tarnish his reputation, claiming he would use every means available to defend himself as a dignified individual.

Nargis’s son, Ali Murtaza, has also taken action, submitting a request to the Canadian embassy regarding the alleged violence against his mother. He stated that his mother, known as Ghazala, has reportedly been assaulted by her husband, resulting in injuries to her face and body.

In his plea, Murtaza called for the arrest of the accused and for immediate protection for his mother, Ghazala Nargis. The Consul of the Canadian embassy has informed Punjab Inspector General Dr. Usman Anwar about Murtaza’s request.

DIG Investigation commented that a merit-based investigation is underway in the Nargis assault case.

It is noteworthy that the alleged incident occurred on November 1 in Lahore, prompting Nargis’s brother to report the matter to the police by dialling 15. Following the incident, Hina Pervaiz Butt, Chairperson of the Punjab Women Protection Authority, assured Nargis that she would receive justice.

Nargis has filed a complaint against her husband, claiming he demanded property documents and money from her and attempted to bring another woman into their home. When she refused, she alleged that he assaulted her.
