Cannot give licence to kill for honour: CJ

The Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim has categorically stated that people cannot be given a license to kill in the name of “honour,” as three people have been murdered under this pretext.

These remarks were made during the hearing of a bail application for a father and son accused of killing three people in Mardan in an “honour” issue.

During the hearing of the defendants’ bail application, their lawyers informed the court that on July 21, 2024, Bashar and his son Ishaq allegedly shot and killed police officer Shehzad and his two wives, Nazia and Madina, inside their home within the jurisdiction of Sheikh Maltoon Police Station.

According to the preliminary report, the plaintiff alleged that the accused were angry with their daughter Madina for eloping and marrying Shehzad, leading them to kill three people. However, the defense lawyers argued that Bashar and his son Ishaq had already reconciled with Shehzad, and Madina had been formally transferred from a shelter home to her residence.
