Man sentenced to death for killing wife

PESHAWAR: A gender-based violence court here has convicted a person for killing his wife and
sentenced him to death with payment of Rs2 million compensation to the legal heirs of the deceased.
The court presided over by additional sessions judge Syed Arif Shah pronounced the prosecution
through circumstantial evidence duly corroborated by other material fully succeeded to prove its case
against the accused, Yousaf Khan, a resident of Badhher area.
The deceased, Fatima Gul was killed in Aug 2017, but the accused had claimed she was suffering from a
mental ailment and had committed suicide.
Later, the father of the deceased, Said Rasool, and her mother, Shaheen Begum had recorded separate
statements, charging the accused for the murder of their daughter. They claimed the couple was having
strained relationship due to which the accused used to beat her.
A total of nine witnesses appeared for the prosecution to testify against the accused.
